I was watching the World Cup Soccer tournament on television. Ultimately there will be a victor who will claim the coveted World Cup trophy. All soccer enthusiast will be talking about the team that was victorious. My thought was for a team that lost may games and could not qualify to compete with the elite teams. It is then I realized what the coach of a team did when they lost. They went back to the fundamentals of the game. No matter what the expertise was of the player, they start training again with the fundamentals of the game and making the body and mind ready for the upcoming year.
This should remain true for all Christians. When they fail in any aspect of their spiritual life, they need to return to the fundamentals. The idea is to learn from the experts who have been victorious before. (Phi. 3:17 CEV) “My friends, I want you to follow my example and learn from others who closely follow the example we set for you.” For this we need to have a commitment. A commitment to excel. Jesus Christ is victorious, and we share in that victory over sin, death and hell. Let us not be defeated by our own selfish desires and motives. It is up to us to strengthen our weakest / vulnerable areas of life that hinders victory. It is not by our power but by the power of God.
No matter what our failures, it's never too late to hit refresh as a child of God. We have a coach, a teacher, an ever present father waiting with open arms.
