God is a spirit, and they who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth. John 4:24

Jesus was speaking to the Samaritan woman and at the end of the conversation He is giving her a profound truth. God is Spirit. The emphasis is in the word Spirit. It describes the nature and not the personality of God. The other descriptions that tell us what His nature is like. God is light. 1John 1:5. God is love. 1John 4:8. This is the nature of God.

There is no deviation in the fact that God is Spirit. God is a divine person. God in three persons, Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. There are no exclusions of any, yet God is one. Once we understand the nature of God as Spirit we will be able to correctly understand what Jesus was saying. The worship of God is done in the Spirit and truth. This is true worship of true God.

If one offers spiritual worship to God who is Spirit, there is no limitation as to where God can be worshipped. Worship of God in spirit and truth can be done anywhere at any time. Thus there is no need to seek the presence of God at a particular location. He is omnipresent. Normally it is an assembly of believers who are brought together for the purpose of worship, praise, and prayer and teaching. They are led by the Holy Spirit.

It is also a foolish mistake to ascribe to God a form and shape. God is beyond our sensory perceptions. The only way that one can know Him is by faith. Heb. 11. We must believe that God is real. Heb. 11:6. Yet, millions in this world are not able to understand the true nature of God. Ascribing worship and prayers and sacrifice to man-made gods of stone, silver or gold is not the right thing to do. Rom. 1:18-25, Psa. 115:2-5; Psa. 115:6-8.

Who is the true God? Jer. 10:10; John 17:3. It is important that one forsakes idols and turn to the living God. 1Th. 1:9; 1John 5:20. You will be redeemed from your past ways of life to serve a living and true .
