GPS -God’s Path to Security

A few minutes after departing on a road trip, I was reminded of how dependent we have become on the turn by turn navigation system to get us to our intended destination. The fact that we can make selections to avoid obstructions and hindrances such as heavy traffic or tolls or the option to drive through scenic routes or locate a restaurant or gas station was thrilling and convenient. At the same time, I also recognized how quickly we get frustrated and unimpressed with technology when it fails to navigate us away from bumpy roads or through unmapped areas.

These observations led to me think about my journey or walk as a child of God. I was reminded of the very many instances in my life where I had no sense of direction or plan and yet God in His infinite wisdom had led me through these insecure times one step at a time.

I was also reminded that God never gave our fathers of faith complete and meticulous directions as they navigated through their life on this earth. In fact many of them did not know anything about their final destination either. We read in Hebrews 11:8 “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going” (NIV). Along the way, many of these men of faith encountered obstacles, roadblocks, danger, and uncertainty. In response to their cries God answered them but only when they demonstrated surrender. With each step of obedience came clarity concerning the next step.

While the world relies heavily on GPS and maps and self-help books to guide their journey, we as children of God have His word to illuminate our steps and guide our path. Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp for my feet a light on my path (NIV).

As believers, we are not guaranteed a smooth sailing journey. However, if we live a life of obedience through the periods of turbulence, He will secure us under His wings. All we have to do is place our trust and hope in Him. Proverbs 3:6 In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight (NIV).

Are you facing roadblocks and turbulence in your life today? Is the uncertainty of your life’s journey, preventing you from walking in faith? If so, as King David did, declare your dependence on a God who reveals the path of life to us and guides us into His eternal security and everlasting pleasure (Psalm 16:11)

AMEN
