Great Expectations


Ephesians 3: 20-21

20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

As a working mom, I struggle with meeting multiple expectations. This includes expectations which I have placed on myself and those placed upon me by others. It is particularly painful when I fail to meet these expectations. And yet, regardless of my failures and disappointments, those that love me continue to place their trust and hope in me. It made me wonder, how often I fail and dishearten my Savior. I had to pause for a moment to reflect on His expectations of me. I know that at every point of my life God meets me at the level of my expectations. He never disappoints me. Do I meet His expectations? Do I ever disappoint Him?

The scripture reminds us that God’s expectation from us is that we yield ourselves to Him in full submission. He is expecting us to raise our level of expectation of Him as HE continues to demonstrate His love and faithfulness towards us. His vast and immeasurable love for us is the panacea to ALL our letdowns and disappointments. His unconditional love for us turns our disappointments into hope. All He wants from us is our availability. Our availability will result in the demonstration of His power which is within us.

Let’ recommit our lives to Him and allow Him to do whatever He wants to do in us, through us and for us.

Our Lord is a caring and loving God. We are His children and He treat us in a loving way. The concern that we have is to please Him. We yield to the will of the father. Like the prodigal son in the parable in Luke 15: 11-32, even though we disappoint Him, He is always ready to receive and restore us when we repent and return to Him. That is the great assurance we have in Christ.
