Pulse Check

Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you-unless, of course, you fail the test?

For those of us who care for the sick, conducting a detailed assessment is crucial. Part of this assessment includes a pulse check which determines how well the heart is functioning. This check is performed during routine physical exam or when a patient presents with complaints. A pulse check helps determine the overall health and fitness level of the patient.

As Christians, shouldn't we be conducting a pulse check to assess the state of our spiritual life? Shouldn't we routinely examine the vitality of our faith? Are we keeping a check on the pulse of our passion for our Lord?

The Christian life is to be one where we thrive ever more. We are called to be sanctified towards being molded and shaped into the image of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our hearts and minds are to be renewed daily.

Maintaining our spiritual life is not a casual and cavalier effort. A successful spiritual life requires us to become acutely dependent on His grace. May we continue to pray and trust that God will lead and empower us to succeed in fulfilling His specific blueprint for our life.

May we “grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 3:18 NIV

AMEN

Yes Indeed! A self-examination is in order. Slow or weak spiritual pulse is an indicator of a backslidden believer. The first symptom is not interested in spiritual matters like reading the Bible, praying or having fellowship with believers. May God help us to maintain a healthy spiritual pulse.
